The focus - Identification. Every January for the last sixteen years, the smart card community has come together for its conference in Berlin. The major theme this year is focusing on the identification of people and things. The conference considers sophisticated system solutions, the 'smart secure solutions', which now go beyond the familiar card format. The topics covered in the programme include eID cards, electronic and mobile payment, the ehealth card, as well as the numerous deployment opportunities which centre on RFID and NFC.

Scheme compliance, standardization, interchange fee and migration deadline issues, all add to the complexity of developing viable, profitable business models in Acquiring. While new solutions are being sought for these concerns, there are also many new developments providing customers more choices in their payment methods. E-payments, M-payments, contactless cards - innovation is unstoppable and the Acquiring business must embrace it. Our speakers will discuss these issues and share their insights to help answer the question whether European development will follow the US model or provide its own unique solutions.
